Vinegar Hill Sound is a full-service recording studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn, owned & operated by producer/mixer/engineer Reed Black.  

VHS offers rich acoustics, great instruments, & top-notch analog equipment in an inviting & versatile work environment. Record to tape on our Studer A800 2 inch 24-track tape machine, or to Pro Tools via incredible-sounding Burl digital audio converters.

The large live room has an open airy sound, made possible by its 2-story ceilings and extensive treatment. The sonic character is fantastic for drums, piano, string quartets or a brass section. The smaller isobooth has a different texture: tight, focused and punchy - often a great choice for guitar amplifiers, modern vocals, or a tight funk drum kit.

The studio’s collection of instruments includes a 1923 Steinway L grand piano, a 1950s Hammond A-100 organ, and a great selection of drum kits, guitars and amps - always available and serviced for the artist’s use.

We focus on rock music, but we also spend a good deal of time working with classical, jazz, and new music artists due to the rich acoustics of our space and the degree of isolation from outside noise.
